01 Framing
Framing
Art, photographs, canvases and objects, framed by hand in our Sydney workshop.
Custom framing01What can you frame?
Works on paper, prints and posters, photographs, canvases, objects, jerseys and textiles. Our frame designer offers six mounts: standard, window mat, set-back (a shadow box), float on mat, float and canvas. Tell it what the piece is and it starts on the mount that piece needs.
02How much does a custom frame cost?
Every piece is made to order, so the price depends on the size, the moulding, the glass and any matting or printing. The frame designer prices your options as you go, GST included. For anything more involved, send us the details and we'll prepare a quote.
03What is the deepest item you can frame?
For the best result we recommend framing items no more than 12 cm deep. For bigger pieces we can suggest other ways to display them: contact us to talk it through.
04Which glass can I choose?
Three glazings are priced in the frame designer: clear glass (our default), non-reflective glass and acrylic, which is shatter-safe and light. UV-filtering and museum glass for conservation work are quoted by enquiry. Float and canvas mounts are left open, with no glass.
05Do you restore artwork?
We are framers and printers rather than restorers, so we don't restore damaged works ourselves. What we can do is protect your piece from here on with conservation framing (acid-free mounting and UV conservation glazing) and, where restoration is needed, point you towards specialists we trust.
06Can you reframe a piece I already have?
Yes, we reframe works all the time, whether the frame is tired, damaged or no longer suits the room. Bring the piece in and we'll assess it, recommend the right approach and, where it helps, move it to conservation materials.
07Can you print my file, or stretch a canvas?
Yes. We print in-house on four media (a satin photo paper, smooth and textured archival art papers, and a satin canvas) and can frame the print on the same order. We also stretch canvases by hand over timber bars. See Printing.
08Do you offer a student discount?
Yes, we offer a 20% discount to HSC students for their portfolios.
02 Mirrors
Mirrors
Frameless, framed in metal or timber, backlit or suspended, cut to your size.
Custom mirrors01Do you cut to size?
Yes. The ready-to-order range comes in set sizes; in the mirror designer each side can be anything from 100 to 3000 mm. For a size outside that, send us the details.
02Which shapes can I have?
The range has rectangle, radius corner, pill, arch and round, and eleven organic outlines: Bondi, Mia, Lena, Sophia, Emma, Grace, Ava, Darcy, Lyra, Peony and Lily. The designer adds square and oval, or we can cut an outline of your own.
03Framed or frameless?
Either. Metal frames are flat bar, welded and finished in our workshop: sprayed, raw brushed, or powder-coated, anodised or patina in the designer. Timber frames (a slim edge or a box) go on rectangles. Frameless mirrors are all glass, with a polished edge as standard or a bevel.
04What are the lighting options?
An LED strip behind the glass, fitted here with its driver and a 3-pin plug. White comes in warm 3000K, neutral 4000K or cool 6000K; there is also tunable white and full colour. A heated demister pad keeps a bathroom mirror clear. What the LED cover includes is on our Warranty page.
05Can a mirror hang from the ceiling?
Yes. A suspended mirror hangs on a single rod from the ceiling, or on rods above and below, with a drop of 100 to 2000 mm. Suspended mirrors over 1200 mm are quoted by us rather than priced online. Suspended mirrors are fixed in place. They are not made to swivel.
06Is the glass safe?
Our range mirrors are 6 mm silver glass. A vinyl safety backing, a shatter-proof film, can go on the back of a mirror, and for framing, acrylic glazing is shatter-safe. Tell us where the piece is going and we'll recommend what suits it.
07How long does a custom mirror take?
We make to order, so please allow approx. 4–5 weeks for a framed or backlit mirror, approx. 2–3 weeks for an unlit frameless one, plus 1–3 business days in transit. We can often turn around an urgent order faster: call us on (02) 9690 2311 before you order. See Shipping & delivery.
03 Delivery & installation
Delivery & installation
Make times, delivery, pickup, and what to do if something arrives damaged.
Delivery & installation01How long will my order take?
Custom framing: approx. 1–2 weeks, plus 1–3 business days in transit. Mirrors: approx. 4–5 weeks for a framed or backlit mirror, approx. 2–3 weeks for an unlit frameless one, plus 1–3 business days in transit. Ready-made frames and canvases are not made to order: 1–3 business days in transit after dispatch, or free pickup. Each product page states its own make time, and your quote confirms it. Conservation and multi-piece jobs can take longer, so tell us your date and we'll confirm it before you book.
02What does delivery cost?
Delivery is from $60.50 incl. GST across Greater Sydney, the Central Coast and Wollongong, and Australia-wide at our courier's live rate, shown at checkout with GST included, for pieces that box to around 1 × 1 m. Larger pieces are delivered by arrangement. The priced line always appears before you pay. Rates: Delivery & installation.
03Do you install?
Yes, through our partnered Sydney installation teams. Installation is quoted per job: you pay a $99 deposit with your order, we call within 3 business days and visit to measure where needed, and we quote before any work. The deposit comes off that quote. Choose Delivery & Installation at checkout, whether you designed the piece or bought it from the shop. Framed mirrors are installed on a split batten; if you chose to hang one yourself, the batten is added at checkout. See how installation works.
04Can I pick up my order?
Yes. Pick up from our Matraville workshop (Unit 11, 61–71 Beauchamp Road, Matraville NSW 2036) at no extra charge. Pickup hours are Mon–Fri 9am–5pm and Sat 11am–2pm. We'll let you know as soon as your order is ready to collect.
05Do you ship internationally?
We will try to help where we can. Please contact us to talk about what you need.
06My order arrived damaged. What do I do?
Photograph it and report it here within 48 hours of delivery, or email sales@theframingproject.com.au: that's what our courier's insurance requires. This is a separate, shorter window than the 30-day change-of-mind return, and it doesn't limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. See Returns policy.
07Do you offer refunds?
Ready-made items can be returned within 30 days of delivery: unused, in original packaging and with proof of purchase. Custom-made and made-to-order pieces can't be returned for change of mind; this includes custom mirrors, custom framing and catalogue mirrors made to a size you chose. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, and if you're not happy with the result we want to work with you to get it right. Full detail: Returns policy.
08Can I recycle the packaging?
We aim to use as much recyclable packaging as we can. Please remove sticky tape and bubble wrap, and recycle the cardboard.
04 Trade
Trade & rollouts
For designers, builders, stylists and brands working to a programme.
Trade & wholesale01What is your standard make time?
Custom framing: approx. 1–2 weeks, plus 1–3 business days in transit. Mirrors: approx. 4–5 weeks for a framed or backlit mirror, approx. 2–3 weeks for an unlit frameless one, plus 1–3 business days in transit.
02Is anything slower?
Custom-made metal frames (custom sizes and tapware-inspired finishes) are built on a longer cycle, approx. 4–8 weeks. Each product page states its own lead time.
03Can we see a sample first?
Yes. We build and sign off a sample or prototype before a rollout starts, so the run is approved against a physical piece, not a drawing.
04Can a large run be delivered in stages?
Yes. Larger runs are delivered in stages to suit your site access and handover dates, rather than in one drop.
05How are dates confirmed?
Sample turnaround, per-stage delivery dates and monthly capacity are confirmed in writing on your formal quote, against your programme. If you are speccing to a fixed handover, talk to us before you lock the dates: (02) 9690 2311.
06How do I open a trade account?
Register with a business name and an 11-digit ABN, or apply from a signed-in account at /trade/apply. We approve trade accounts by hand, usually within 3 to 5 business days. Trade pricing then shows in your account, the shop and both designers, with no codes.
07How quickly do you reply?
We reply within three business days.
